Christmas 2005
Wow, I haven't written an entry in a long time.
Christmas this year was... fulfilling. I have to admit I hardly got any presents this year (but a few people still owe me presents..
) but I realized that there's something more satisfying than material things.
This year, my family and I went to Fatima Center in Iriga, Bicol. Its an orphanage. It was a 14 hour drive there but once we got there it instantly felt like home, even the sister's were saying, "Welcome Home." We stayed there from December 23 to December 26.
The highlight of the whole trip was definitely the kids. There are 146 of them and they said there are more to come. They were amazing. They weren't rude and rowdy, unlike some kids I have encountered in the past, they were sweet and friendly. Each of them has their own story of how they got there and some of their stories almost made me cry. The great thing is they realize how lucky they are to be there because they get 3 meals a day and they have a place to sleep at night. They know that there are other people that are worse off than they are. So everyday they save a part of their rice ration to give to the "poorest of the poor" families. They're more mature than a lot of people I know. They give without expecting in return, they are thankful for every little thing they have, and they still manage to smile despite their past. It's ironic but I look up to them.
All in all, I had a great Christmas. If you guys wanna make some kids really happy you can come with me next year.. *ahem* *ahem*.
